Venerable Omze Sherab
Below is the biography of Venerable Omze Sherab written by H.E. Gyalwa Dokhampa:
"His Holiness appointed Omze Sherab (1918-2001), a monk from Sangag Choeling in Tibet, as my teacher when I was a child. Sadly, he passed away on my 20th the year before I came to Bhutan.
From Omze Sherab ,I have received all the basic training and teachings whilst I was growing up at Druk Thubten Sangag Choeling in Darjeeling. He never scolded me but always reasoned with me when I made mistakes. Although externally Omze Sherab seemed like a very common monk, he was actually a great practitioner and well learned in many fields like astrology, history, poetry, grammar and Buddhist liturgy.
Omze Sherab’s father was a great Yogi of secret practices-a Tantric Ngakpa And renowned for his Tantric Powers. His family ancestry is traced back to the great Terton (treasure revealer) Guru Chowang (1212-1270), who was one of the five Terton kings, the major revealers of secret texts hidden by Guru Padmasambhva in the 8th century. Dorje Lingpa (1346-1405), Padma Lingpa (b.1405) and Jamyang Khyentse (1820-1892).
I was told that his family lineage could revive the Sacred Minling Lineage if the need arose. Despite his spiritual abilities, Omze Sherab was a very humble person. He had neither pride nor ill wish. He was always so patient and kind to everyone. I feel very lucky to have been brought up by him under his tender care and love.
Not only did I receive the essential teachings and empowerments of the Drukpa Lineage from him, I also received many teachings just by his example of humility, kindness, and unconditional compassion."
